Compassionate support for young adults with disabilities and autism
Located in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, our newest adult day centre opened in September 2021 as part of the trusted Lotus Care Services Ltd. With over 20 years of experience, we support adults with PMLD (profound and multiple learning disabilities) and autism, providing structured care in an accessible, wheelchair-friendly environment.
Our day services focus on enabling independence, building confidence, and fostering real connections — ensuring every individual gets the support they need to live life on their terms.
Personalised care plans that put the needs of your loved one first
Our personalised plans are built around each service user’s unique needs, routines, and preferences, with specialist support for individuals with PMLD and autism. Using communication methods like Makaton and carefully designed activities suited to varying abilities, our centre is a place where your loved one will feel understood, supported, and encouraged to engage in ways that are meaningful to them.
Based outside of Swadlincote? We also provide adult day opportunities at our Burton-on-Trent centre, offering individualised support for young adults with disabilities, autism, and challenging behaviours in Staffordshire.

Monday to Friday from 8.30am until 3.30pm
Strengthening connections with Makaton
We understand how important it is for your loved one to feel understood, which is why many of our staff at our adult day centres are trained in Makaton. This language programme uses signs, symbols, and speech — making communication more accessible for individuals with PMLD, autism, and complex needs. By integrating Makaton into daily life, we help service users express themselves and feel understood.
How Makaton benefits our service users
Encourages self-expression: Makaton gives our service users a way to communicate their needs, feelings, and choices, supporting independence and reducing frustration.
Builds relationships: Makaton strengthens connections with staff, peers, and family by ensuring they can share thoughts and engage in conversations.
Promotes inclusion: Makaton ensures your loved one feels part of every activity, creating a sense of belonging.

Helping our young people discover and embrace what makes them truly happy
Our daily activities promote physical health, mental wellbeing, and a sense of accomplishment — all while having fun. With dedicated one-to-one and small group support, we offer a range of opportunities each day that enable our service users to explore their interests, experience a sense of accomplishment, and receive the support they need to enjoy everyday life. Our activities include, but aren't limited to:
Exercise and dancing
Nature walks
Games
Sensory activities
Gardening
Music and films
Shopping
Cooking
Arts and crafts
Life skills

Expanding horizons with our outreach sessions
Our outreach sessions offer adults and children the chance to explore new places and take part in adventures beyond the centre. Running outside our core hours, these wheelchair-accessible trips combine engaging on-site activities with excursions to zoos, theme parks, museums, and more. Designed for individuals with PMLD, autism, and complex needs, they offer our young people opportunities to enjoy new experiences in a safe, supported way.

"My son was a shy young lad who was piling on weight and feeling pretty miserable. He joined Lotus, and within the first year, he has turned into a confident young man who loves nothing more than talking to people and having a chat.
The activities that Lotus gets Adam involved in have also meant he has lost a stone in weight. Life could not be better for him. The first thing he says when he wakes up is, "Am I going to see my friends today?"
We have found the staff caring, compassionate, and patient with him. I can't recommend them highly enough. Don't wait like we did — I wish I’d enrolled him years ago."
